Are We Becoming Too Used to Horror/Bad News?

I did a little traveling today and guess what I experienced. A journey of normally six hours on road, took us extra three hours. I was expecting to get to my destination latest, six or seven p.m. but I ended up reaching around 9 p.m. Why? We entered deadlocked traffic at different places caused by tragic accidents that had just happened. I can count up to four, five trailers that tumbled on the road or smashed into bush part at different points. At one point, I couldn't just bring myself to look at the tragic situation: they were bringing out dead bodies that just went to their early graves from a bridge where they just smashed into. What everyone did was normal, shake their heads and life continues. I guess we really have become used to tragedy. It now looks natural for people to die anyhow and it means nothing.

When Bokoharam insurgency started in Nigeria, people used to shudder when they hear things like, "ten people or so, so number people got bombed at so, so, place." But now, it no longer means much to open a newspaper with a headline: "Ten Die in a Bomb Blast in so, so Church." Not a big news anymore as it were. Some years ago, when we go for evangelism, we used to preach and say, "Bible prophecy says we shall hear of rumours of war: it is happening in Irak; It is happening in Sudan; it is happening in Pakistan, etc" You know, trying to remind people of the urgency of the end time. But soon it started happening in our own border too. Now, it looks like we are becoming used to the negative news. When abnormal things happen, people frown it and seek for immediate solution but now abnormality is celebrated.

In our generation it is now normal for a man to wake up and go and woo his fellow man for marriage. And the society that should check his psyche is now backing him up. The women the same. Oh what a shamelessness! Nothing attracts attention like abnormality nowadays. In fact, for news to sell these days, it must contain sexual appealing contents, romance, horror and terror.

Man have become a terror to himself indeed. Lie sells. Rumour sells.

In all these, is there any hope for man?

Yes, the only hope is Christ Jesus. He is the way, the truth and life; no one comes to the father but through Him. He said come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. He promised to give us His peace not as the world gives. Looking at what is happening in the world, people may faint and get weary. But submitting one's life to Christ is the only assurance of hope. Please don't delay, there is peace in Christ.

God's Glory

Scriptural Highlight: ( Isaiah 60:1 ) - "Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you."

Make Alliance With Righteous Causes

Scriptural Highlight: ( 2Kings 9:17 ) - "Now the watchman was standing on the tower in Jezreel, and he saw the company of Jehu as he came and said, 'I see a company.' And Joram said, 'Take a horseman and send to meet them and let them say, 'is it well'. So a man on horseback went to meet them and said, 'Thus says the king, 'is it peace?' And Jehu answered, 'what do you have to do with peace? Turn and ride behind me." Our scriptural highlight for today showcases a scene of battle between righteousness and evil. Joram king of Israel belonged to the family of Ahab and Jezebel, people that have troubled Israel with their sorcery, covetousness and blood spills. And a word of prophecy from Elijah had gone out against this evil house saying, "Behold, I will bring evil upon thee, and will utterly sweep thee away and will cut off from Ahab every man-child...(1Kings 21:21). So, in effect, God located Jehu and anointed him to fight...

MY PAST HUNTS ME! HOW DO I DEAL WITH IT NOW THAT AM IN CHRIST?

DRAW A LINE BETWEEN YOUR PAST AND YOUR FUTURE ! Many people come to Christ daily but battle with the memories of their past life which probably was rough, painful or traumatic. I have seen many people who struggled to live their new found faith in Christ just because a terrible past life comes hunting: I have seen some who got delivered from occult involvements, terrible abuses, sexual lifestyles and other dehumanizing struggles battling to live the Christian life because of the height of what they had been through. For some of them even when God has forgiven their sins, they find it hard to forgive themselves. So the devil takes advantage of the struggle, self condemnation or guilt to hinder their growth in the things of the spirit. But the Bible teaches that, he that is in Christ is a new creation, old things are past away and behold all things are new. No matter what a person has done, as long as the person has not grieved the Holy Spirit, he can be saved. So the...
